A couple of players at different stages of their careers are battling for spots at Swift Current Broncos training camp.

Veteran Daniel Dale had a couple of goals in scrimmage Thursday night as he tries to show he deserves one of the three overage spots on the roster.

"It was fun," Dale said. "I haven't played a lot of game like things in the summer and obviously haven't scored in the regular season in a long time but it's just training camp... don't get too high on yourself."

Dale comes in as one of four potential overage players and is trying to make the team after a 19-year-old season where he admits he struggled at times. He felt his game rounded into form in the playoffs and wants to build off that.

Daniel Dale Interview"Had a tough season it happens," Dale said. "Towards the end of the year I started playing better especially in the playoffs. That's really what sparked me to work hard this summer and come back in shape. I'm building off that and we're just going to see where it goes."

Dale had 3 assists in 70 regular season games last season. That's down from 3 goals and 4 assist the season before. He is also known for contributing on the physical side of the game and knows what he has to do to stand out.

"I know how I'm going to make the team," he said. "Obviously just playing my role. People know how I play. Expand on what I was last year, be more reliable defensively and maybe contribute more offensively. More the defensive part of the game."

At the other end of the spectrum is highly touted 16-year-old Glenn Gawdin who is trying to make the team in his first try after being drafted in the first round of the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.

"I'm just trying to get a s pot," Gawdin said. "Not too many expectations. I'm just trying to make the team and to be an impact player on the team."

He looked good in scrimmage action playing on a line with veteran Coda Gordon. He also knows what he has to do to impress the coaches.

Glenn Gawdin Interview"Just show that I can play against older guys," Gawdin said. "Play up to speed, contribute offensively and defensively... show I can be an all-around player."

Gawdin had 46 points in 37 games for the Greather Vancouver Canadiens in BC Major Midget last season. He added 11 points in 6 playoff games.

You can see all the aspiring Broncos in action during scrimmages at 4 and 6pm Friday and Saturday. The Black and White intrasquad game is Sunday at 1pm.
