Perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime box was ticked by the Swift Current Abbey Resources Midget AA Broncos Friday night at Fairview West.

In a 4-1 win over the visiting Notre Dame Argos, Swift Current clinched a perfect 36-0-0-0 regular-season record.

A bit of a nervous energy clouded over Fairview, as the Midget Broncos and Argos were both held scoreless through the first period of play.

"Everybody knew what was going to happen if we won this game," said forward Brock Oberle. "Everybody was nervous for the start for sure, but we stuck to our systems and played a good game."

Oberle buried the game's first goal in the second period.

"Well it was a tight start there and we just couldn't buy one. It felt nice to finally get one to go and get the lead. We just never looked back after that."

Rookies Cash Arntsen and Ryan McCleary rounded out goal-scoring in the game.

Arntsen scored the eventual game-winner, while McCleary ripped a pair home late in the third, both on the powerplay.

"Overall it's just a great feeling," said McCleary. "We've been working hard for this all year. We just overwhelmed them, outshot them, did what we needed to do, and just pounded them into the ground."

"It just shows the depth we have on our team," added Oberle. "Any night, it doesn't matter if you're a first-year or a third-year, it's just everybody contributes, and that's why we're successful."

Swift Current throttled the Argos on the shot-clock, imposing their will over the final 40 minutes for a 58-18 shot advantage.

Brad Nyen made 17 saves in net for the Midget Broncos - the lone goal came with two minutes remaining, with the game well out of reach at that point.

Though the team was understandably elated after the improbably feat was accomplished, their main goal still stands on the horizon.

"We want to win it all," said McCleary. "If we lose out first round, the season doesn't mean anything, so we're just moving it one game at a time, and we're just going to keep winning."

The Midget AA Broncos host the Melville Millionaires in Round 1 of playoffs Sunday at 3:15 from Fairview West.
