A 4-1 loss to the Moose Jaw Generals opened the Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires preseason schedule on the road last night.

The Legionnaires carried a young team into their preseason opener, with all 21 players in the lineup either brand new to the Legionnaires, or an affiliated player from last season.

Swift Current jumped out to the early lead as Imperial's Maguire Scheidt scored with a shade under four minuted remaining in the first period. The 16-year-old played for the Humboldt Midget AA Broncos last season, scoring 13 goals and tallying 32 total points in 26 games.

Towering Saskatoon-born defenceman Kaeden Watkins assisted on the goal. The 6-foot-5 16-year old played Midget AA in the Bridge City last season after being selected in the fifth round (106th overall) by the Kelowna Rockets in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft. Watkins tallied eight assists at with the Saskatoon Midget AA Sabrecats.

Meanwhile, fellow Rockets prospect Justin Dueck shone in net for the Legionnaires. The Waldeck product stopped 49 of 53 Generals shots, getting Swift Current's game star in the process.

The 15-year-old Dueck was selected by Kelowna in the tenth round of this past May's WHL Draft.

The Legionnaires managed just 17 shots in the loss.

They don't have to wait long for another crack at preseason action, as Swift is back on the road Saturday taking on the Saskatoon Contacts at 7 p.m.
