The Swift Current Indians’ batting order got a little more formidable today with the announcement that outfielder Aaron Dunsmore will return to the team.

He spent the summer of 2011 with the Calgary Vipers of the North American Baseball League.

In 2010, Dunsmore helped the Indians to a WMBL championship.

He led the team with a .475 on-base percentage and eight stolen bases.

"Aaron will make a huge impact in the middle of our order," said Indians head coach Joe Carnahan. "He is an exceptional hitter who hits for both power and average, and he is also a threat on the base paths. Aaron is a special player – a difference-maker everywhere on the field."

The Indians also announced today a number of new faces: SS Carter Yagi (Salt Lake City, Utah/College of Southern Idaho), 3B/1B Garrett Yost (Littleton, Colo./Lamar Community College), RHP Brian Ranta (Clackamas, Ore./George Fox University), LHP Garrett Anderson (Kennewick, Wash./Seattle University), LHP Mitch Ludtke (Bellingham, Wash./Concordia University), and Mark Hendrick (Albuquerque, N.M./Lamar Community College).

There are a number of Indians connections in the group of newcomers. Yagi was recommended to Swift Current by Indians and Southern Idaho alumnus Craig Kilshaw, and comes from the same school as former Indians standouts Nik Gumeson, Bo Lybeck, and Jason Oatman.

Ranta meanwhile has been coached in college for the past four years by former Indians pitcher Brandon Rupp, who is also returning to the Indians this year as an assistant coach.

Opening day is May 31st and we will bring you a selection of games on The Eagle 94.1 FM.
