Cody Eakin scrumming with the Washington media

Former Broncos Captain Cody Eakin is making a good early impression at Washington Capitals camp.

Eakin admitted he wasn't in the best shape at development camp in July, but used the rest of the summer to get in top condition.

"Since then I've had as long as anyone," Eakin said.

"I think I did pretty well in the testing."

This will be Eakin's first full season as a professional and he is trying to earn one of only a couple of available spots in the Capitals forward group. If he doesn't make the Capitals he will start with Hershey in the American Hockey League.

In pre-season action, another former Bronco Captain Justin Dowling and the Calgary Flames lost 4-3 to Vancouver at the young stars tournament in Penticton Monday.

Broncos forward Adam Lowry and the Winnipeg Jets played their first exhibition game, beating the San Jose Sharks young stars 4-0.

Lowry's Jets play Edmonton Tuesday night.
