Former Swift Current Broncos captain Cody Eakin will be wearing the maple leaf as a member of Team Canada for the World Hockey Championship.

TSN's Ryan Rishaug reported that Eakin will join a partial list of players who have accepted an invitation to play for Canada in the annual tournament.

Eakin's General Manager in Dallas Jim Nill is also managing Canada's roster. Both men are available after the Stars missed the NHL playoffs.

It's Eakin's first time representing Canada as a professional. He also suited up in the red and white at World Juniors in 2011.

The World Hockey Championship is set for May 1rst in the Czech Republic.

It was a career year for Eakin with 19 goals and 21 assists. He finished fourth in Dallas Stars team scoring.

Eakin also helped secure an individual honour for Dallas captain Jamie Benn. He scored a goal with eight seconds left in their final game and Benn's assist put him on top of the NHL scoring leader-board to win the Art Ross Trophy.
