Swift Current Broncos' captain Cody Eakin is now a member of the Kootenay Ice.

The team dealt the 19-year-old forward to the Ice in exchange for forward Christian Magnus, listed players Ryan Bloom, Jarett Zentner, Colby Cave and Steven Myland, a 1st and 2nd round pick in 2011 and a 3rd round pick in 2012.

Eakin leaves the Broncos after four years with the team, where he recorded 100 goals and 195 points in 212 games. He also just recently represented Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships, the first Bronco to do so since Ian White in 2003.

Head Coach and GM Mark Lamb said in a team press release today, "Eakin has been the best player to come to this team since Joe Sakic... It’s a trade we didn’t want to do, but it’s the best thing for our hockey club in the long run.”

Lamb has named forward Justin Dowling as the team's captain for the remainder of the season.

The Broncos head to Medicine Hat tonight to take on the Tigers in a game rescheduled from yesterday. You can hear it on the Eagle 94.1 with the pre-game show at 6:30.
