It's been an approximately 24-hour period that must have felt like an eternity for the family and loved ones of former Swift Current Broncos captain Colby Cave.

It was reported earlier today that the 25-year-old was airlifted from Barrie, Ont. to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto Monday night. Cave was suffering from a brain bleed and was then put in a medically-induced coma and admitted to critical care.

The North Battleford product then underwent emergency surgery in Toronto, where it was reported that a colloid cyst - the source of pressure on his brain - was removed.

Cave remains in a medically-induced coma at this time.

The forward played four seasons in Swift Current (2011-15), serving as team captain the final two campaigns. Over that time, Cave played in 301 combined regular-season and playoff games, recording 99 goals and 210 total points.

Cave has spent the past two years jumping between the AHL and NHL, most recently with the Edmonton Oilers and the Bakersfield Condors - their AHL affiliate.
