In the eight-team Bantam division of the Female Hockey Challenge tournament in Regina, the Swift Current Female Bantam A Colts made a run to the A-side final over the weekend.

The Bantam Colts played Friday afternoon against the Regina Renegades in a defensive battle, resulting in a 0-0 draw.

Swift managed to find the scoreboard in their second game Friday evening against the Sherwood Park Fusion. However, once again a product of the even competition, the game ended in a 3-3 tie.

Saturday's first game saw the Bantam Colts's first win, as they edged the Regina Bisons 3-2. The win allowed the team to qualify for a semi final playoff against the East Central Fillies.

A late empty-net goal in that semi-final game lifted the Bantam Colts to a 2-0 win. It also lifted the Swift squad into a spot in the A-side final against that same Sherwood Park Fusion side.

A three-goal first period for Sherwood Park proved too much of a task to overcome, as the Bantam Colts ultimately fell 4-0 to take second place.

The finish capped off a good tournament-long showing, according to Colts head coach Wade Lacher.

"The girls played hard all weekend. It was a tournament that helped us gel as a team and implement some things we have been working on lately - we are proud of the girls."

The Bantam A Colts play in the South Saskatchewan Female Hockey League with teams from Melville, Balcarres, Weyburn, Moose Jaw, Estevan and four from Regina.
