Editor's Note: Thanks to Deb for providing her reports and updates throughout the school year! She does a great job for athletics in the southwest.

The Southwest Athletic Conference along with Chinook School Division hosted a very successful meeting of the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association in Swift Current on June 20-22.  It was a great 3 day conference with over 180 delegates from all over the province.  Many positive comments were heard about the city of Swift Current and the host committee.  We would like to thank the many businesses, organizations and schools who helped us put this activity on.

SHSAA and SWAC also give out their annual awards at the conference.  The South West recipients included:

Male Coach award – went to Mr. Tim Miller from Shaunavon.  Mr. Miller has spent many years coaching a variety of sports.  This past school year, he coached the football team as well as the girls’ basketball team.  Congrats to Mr. Miller!

Female Coach award – went to Mrs. Penny Selvig from Shaunavon.  Mrs. Selvig has coached in the sport of volleyball for many years.  This past school year, she was the senior boys volleyball coach at Shaunavon.  Congrats to Mrs. Selvig!

Officials Award – went to Mrs. Val Bennett from Climax/Frontier.  Mrs. Bennett has officiated in volleyball and basketball throughout the Southwest for a number of years.  Congrats to Mrs. Bennett!

Service Award – is presented to that individual who provides outstanding leadership and service and promotes high school athletics in our area.  This year’s recipient is Mr. Murray Legge from Frontier School.  Mr. Legge has coached many activities over his years in Frontier – but his passion has always been volleyball.  He has coached the senior boys or senior girls for many years at Frontier.  Mr. Legge will be retiring at the end of this school year.  We wish him all the best and congratulate him on the award.

That concludes the high school sports season for another year.  We will be back in action in September!
