A former Swift Current Bronco is looking to play hockey on North American soil for the first time since his tenure in the WHL.

Danis Zaripov, who played for the Broncos in the 1998-99 season, received a two-year suspension from the International Ice Hockey Federation for testing positive for World Anti-Doping Agency-banned substances last season in the KHL - he is currently appealing that ruling.

Zaripov is also eligible to sign in the NHL after agreeing to additional drug testing beyond what is mandated.

The 36-year old Russian scored 23 goals in 62 games for the Broncos.

Early reports peg the New York Rangers and Las Vegas Golden Knights as likely suitors for the forward.
