A couple of former Swift Current Broncos reminded their old team what they lost in Calgary on Friday night.

Conner Chaulk scored twice and Riley Stotts added another as Calgary beat the Broncos 6-1.

Swift Current traded Chaulk, Stotts and Dom Schmiemann as part of a package for Matteo Gennaro and Beck Malenstyn two weeks ago. This was the first meeting between the two clubs since the deal.

The Broncos struggled with stars Aleksi Heponiemi and Tyler Steenbergen out of the lineup. They managed only one goal and 15 shots on the night.

Calgary took a 2-0 lead after the second period, but the Broncos got back to within striking distance when Glenn Gawdin scored his 25th of the season only 21 seconds into the third. Swift Current would only manage one other shot in the period as the Hitmen then completely took over.

In a penalty filled game Calgary went 3 for 8 on the power play, while Swift Current was 0 for 3.

A frustrated Broncos club engaged the HItmen physically late in the third period with several quick fights.

16-year-old forward Grayson Stewart made his WHL debut for the Broncos on the night. He has 13 points in 19 games of Midget Prep for the Northern Alberta X-Treme Prep team in the CSSHL.

The game was the first Heponiemi has missed since starting his WHL career.

The Broncos dropped to third place in the WHL East Division with their loss and Brandon's win. They will take a 20-7-2-0 record into Red Deer on Saturday night. You can listen live on The Eagle 94.1 FM with Robertson Family Group Broncos Hockey at 7:30pm.
