Former Swift Current Broncos Coach and General Manager Mark Lamb looks to be enjoying his time out west serving as the new GM for the Prince George Cougars, after being hired to the position in June of this year.

Lamb took over the head of the off-ice staff for a Cougars team that stumbled to a 24-38-5-5 record last season, good for second-last in the league.

Though the trend appears to have shifted slightly already a few months into the job, as Lamb has been able to dive hard into the off-ice side in his first gig solely in that role.

"Right now, there's a lot of work to be done here - there's a lot of evaluating, I'm still doing it right now," said Lamb, who had held the Coach/GM combination in previous jobs. "Right through the hockey team, the staff, the scouting staff. So there's really not enough time in the day to do everything. So if I was coaching right now too, it would be a lot."

The Cougars are now 5-6-0-2 so far this season, good for third place in the B.C. Division.

Lamb noted that, during the team's current rebuild, his past experiences have been able to help with growth on and off the ice.

"I think it really helps the job. I can really relate to the coaches on what I'm seeing in systems and stuff like that. They can talk to me about certain situations. I've been around a long time now, I'm getting older, so all the stuff I've seen, I think it's valuable right through the whole organization."

The Cadillac-born Lamb will have the opportunity to make his mark on the team, especially via the WHL Bantam Draft, over the next two seasons.

Last year's management traded defenceman Josh Anderson to the Broncos, and fellow blueliner Dennis Cholowski to the Portland Winterhawks, receiving a haul of picks in return. This means Lamb and the Cougars now hold a combined four first-round picks, three second-round picks, and two third-rounders in the 2019 and 2020 WHL Bantam Drafts.

Lamb joined Broncos play-by-play announcer Shawn Mullin on the Robertson Family Group Broncos broadcast this past Sunday in a 3-1 Prince George win.
