Former Swift Current Broncos star facilitator Aleksi Heponiemi was selected to Finland's preliminary World Junior camp roster for the second straight year.

Heponiemi is having a steady first season in the Finnish Elite League with the Oulun Kärpät, notching six goals and 22 points in 25 games so far this season.

It's the first year back home for Heponiemi, after a somewhat brief, yet star-studded career with the Broncos.

The shifty, slippery forward is no stranger to lofty assist totals, after flourishing in the offensive end in the WHL.

Over two seasons in the southwest, Heponiemi lived on the stat sheet, with 181 helpers and 242 total points over a combined 169 regular season and playoff games.

That effort was capped off by 90 assists and 118 regular-season points in the 2017-18 campaign, to go along with 30 points in 26 playoff appearance en route to the team's first WHL Championship since 1993.

Heponiemi's list of WHL and CHL accolades in his two-year stint with the Broncos includes:

WHL - Most Assists by a Rookie (58)
WHL - Most Points by a Rookie (86)
WHL - Rookie of the Year (Jim Piggott Trophy)

WHL - Most Assists (90)
WHL - Most Playoff Assists (25)
WHL - First All-Star Team (Eastern Conference)
WHL - Most Sportsmanlike Player (Brad Hornung Trophy)
CHL - Sportsman of the Year

Heponiemi's World Junior Prelim invite comes a year removed from scoring two goals in five games in the 2017 edition of the tournament with the Finnish squad.

The second-round pick of Florida Panthers in the 2017 NHL draft (40th overall) will be joined on the Finnish prelim roster by his Kärpät teammate, and 2018 first round draft selection of the Los Angeles Kings (20th overall), Rasmus Kupari.

The 18-year-old Kupari has eight goals and 20 points in 24 appearances in the Finnish Elite League, and also played in five contests last go around at the WJC with Heponiemi and Finland.

Led by head coach Jussi Ahokas, Finland will square off with Denmark in Langley, B.C. on December 19, and against Team Canada in Vancouver on December 23 ahead of final cuts.
