Aneroid-born NHLer Patrick Marleau is on the move.

In a transaction that helps clear up some salary cap space, the Toronto Maple Leafs dealt Marleau, a conditional first-rounder and seventh-rounder in the 2020 draft to the Carolina Hurricanes.

The condition for the first-round pick heading to the Canes gives them a 2021 first-rounder instead, if the 2020 placing is a top-10 pick.

Swinging back the Leafs' way is a sixth-round pick in the 2020 draft.

Toronto won't have to retain any of Marleau's $6.25-million cap salary in the deal, freeing up space heading into free agency.

After a storied career with the San Jose Sharks, the iron man Marleau played two seasons north of the border with the Leafs.

The 39-year-old former Swift Current Midget AAA Legionnaires standout tallied 91 total points in 178 combined regular-season and playoff contests with Toronto over that time.

Marleau departs the under-performing Leafs, and joins the Eastern Conference Finalist Hurricanes to continue his current 21-year career.

The southwest Saskatchewan product sits 28th on the NHL all-time scoring list with 551 goals. His 1166 career points sit 53rd all-time.
