Four Swift Current Athletes, two coaches and a chaperone will be part of Team Saskatchewan for the Canada Summer Games.

It runs August 2nd to the 18th in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

Megan Rumpel will represent our province in the heptathlon.

"Obviously a realy big honour," Rumpel said. "There's a lot of girls who were in the running for the heptathlon and a lot of really talented girls. I'm just so thrilled that I was selected."

Megan Rumpel Interview"I always love being able to represent Saskatchewan. Our program here for track and field is awesome. I'm excited to show them what I can do for them."

Rumpel recently finished 10th in the heptathlon at senior nationals. She earned a silver medal in the pentathlon at the Canada West University Track & Field Championships in February.

She's looking forward to competing with the best in Canada.

"I really thrive off of the big atmospheres like that and having really tough competition," Rumpel said. "I'd rather girls that are better than me so I can push to be as good as they are and I can learn a little something along the way as well."

That tough competition means Rumpel will face some athletes that could be at the olympic level at some point.

"I'm just kind of going into it looking to beat my own personal bests," she added. "If I could get top five or something like that would be really great for me I'd say."

Rumpel also competes for the University of Regina.

The other local representatives include Reid Fritzke and BJ Moen on the provincial baseball team and swimmer Kathryn Durant. Jeff Chambers of Elmwood Golf and Country Club will coach the golf team, Jacqueline Powell will be a swim coach and Eric Lautsch a swimming chaperone.

The Saskatchewan Games Council provides the logistical support for Team Sask prior to and during each Canada Games.
