Milestone moments at different stages of two players' careers helped lead the Swift Current Broncos to a 4-3 overtime win over Edmonton tonight.

Andrew Fyten scored the winner in his 200th WHL game, while Isaac Poulter made 42 saves to earn his first win in the league.

"I was calling for it earlier and I thought there could be a quick two on one break and the guy caught up," Fyten said. "When I saw the open ice the middle I just shot through the guy's stick and it ended up going in so I was happy about that."

The Broncos picked up back-to-back overtime wins this weekend and now have points in three consecutive games. They lost 2-1 to Kootenay in a shootout on Tuesday, beat Lethbridge 5-4 in OT last night and added another win this evening.

"Everyone is just coming together really well," Fyten said. "Everyone is starting to buy in to a team identity we have in the room. It has shown we've got five out of six points in the last three games."

For Poulter it was a memorable experience finally getting to taste victory at the WHL level.

"Just a lot of adrenaline," Poulter noted. "A little nervous going into overtime, but I knew (Fyten) was scoring when he pulled it in and shoots in overtime... it's unreal we're rolling right now. I think all those close losses we have are coming together."

It was a hectic third period for Poulter as the Oil Kings fired 21 shots at the Swift Current goal in an attempt to erase a deficit and extend their five game winning streak.

"Just focusing on the next shot for sure," Poulted said. "I don't want to get too ahead of myself. I think maybe that's why they scored I was getting too ahead of myself with our lead. Just one shot at a time. Make sure I watch it all the way in and if there's a rebound I'll watch it all the way out. Focus on that one shot and put everything I have into that one shot."

Max Patterson and Alec Zawatsky each had a goal and an assist in the win. They both had four points in two games this weekend.

Ethan Regnier also scored for his second goal in his last three games.

Swift Current got off to a strong start for the third straight game. It's something they've really been working hard at as the first periods were a struggle for the team during a couple long losing skids.

"With that you have to hand it to the players," said Broncos assistant coach Scott Dutertre. "We gave them ownership on that. We told them they have to find a different way to get ready. They changed their pre-game ritual. I'm still not sure what they do with it yet, but whatever it is it's working and we've come out of the gate pretty hot in the last couple of games."

Trey Fix-Wolansky was the head of the snake for Edmonton as he had three assists and was dangerous most of the night. Brett Kemp had a goal and an assist for the Oil Kings.

Former Broncos defenceman Jacson Alexander wasn't in Edmonton's lineup as he is out with an injury.

After a scoreless first period, Swift Current built a 3-1 lead in the second on goals by Patterson, Regnier and Zawatsky. Kemp's goal in the final minute of the period closed the gap again and made things a little tense to start the third.

The Oil Kings really took over the pace of play in the final frame and scored a controversial goal to tie things up. It appeared Andrei Pavlenko was guilty of interference as Matthew Robertson was allowed to walk in from the point and rip a shot upstairs on Poulter.

Edmonton kept testing the young Broncos netminder and couldn't find another answer.

"They have some great players," Dutertre said. "We tried to keep them perimeter and tried to get sticks on pucks. There were a lot of stoppages from pucks going over the glass which meant we were doing our job that way too. (Poulter) held us in there when we needed it."

Fyten has goals in back-to-back games and his improvement offensively hasn't come by accident.

"Every day he's coming to the rink and getting better," Dutertre said. "He wants to watch videos of his shifts. He wants to figure out how to get better. The last couple nights the goals he scored he has been working on changing the direction of his shot. He probably spends 15 minutes to 30 minutes after every practice working on that kind of stuff... it just put a smile on my face when I saw it because you can see the work he's been doing and it's paying off for him."

Both teams scored on their lone power play opportunity.

The Broncos are now 3-14-0-1 on the season with six days off before playing three games next weekend.

They're in Prince Albert on Friday, Regina on Saturday and back home against Red Deer for a Remembrance Day matinee on Sunday.
