Glenn Gawdin scored twice and had two assists to lead the Swift Current Broncos to a 4-0 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Logan Flodell made 38 saves to earn the shutout in Swift Current's goal as they rebounded from a 4-3 loss to Saskatoon on Friday.

“The team played a lot more sound defensively and offensively,” Flodell said. “We figured some stuff out after the game against Saskatoon and the guys came to play right from the start to the finish.”

The Broncos got off to a strong start with three first period goals and had a consistent effort for most of the game.

“We bounced back,” said Broncos associate coach Ryan Smith. “Last night was a disappointing result for us and the guys bounced back. A good start to the game and it was a good pace... that kind of got everybody into it.”

After feeling like it was almost a one-line effort on Friday, Smith was happy with the play of the whole lineup against Medicine Hat.

“It was a complete team effort from goalie out,” Smith said. “Flodell had a bounce back game too... so it starts with him and he was a strong, steady, calming presence. The d kept it simple tonight. The forwards capitalized on their chances, scored some goals, created some opportunities and I thought it was a heavier game from us.”

Flodell allowed four goals had a couple shaky moments against the Blades on Friday. The shutout of Medicine Hat was a return to form for the Broncos defensively for the team and for Floodell as well.

“I felt like I didn't play my best yesterday,” Flodell said. “Today I tried to focus as much as I possibly can on just tracking the puck and I thought I did pretty well today. The guys kept the guys to the outside so I could see the puck a lot easier which helped a lot.”

Gawdin opened the scoring turning a long distance bank pass by Colby Sissons into a shorthanded breakaway. He added assists on goals by Artyom Minulin and Aleksi Heponiemi to help launch the Broncos in the first period.

“He's our captain for a reason,” Smith said. “You can see there is a purpose to his game this year. He leads by example. He puts it all on the line pretty much every single game. I don't think Glenn had taken a game off or a shift off.”

Gawdin then added another goal late in the second period to put the game out of reach.

Tyler Steenbergen (34), Heponiemi (33) and Gawdin (30) occupy the first, second and fourth spots among the top WHL point producers. Two assists from Sissons moved him into third among top scoring defencemen with 17 points in 13 games.

The Broncos are now 10-2-1-0 on the season and sit a point back of Moose Jaw for the WHL Eastern Conference lead with two games in hand. They are off until visiting Prince Albert on Friday and hosting the Red Deer Rebels next Saturday.
