Kyle product Baylee Gillanders and the University of Minnesota are set for a return trip to the NCAA women's hockey Frozen Four this weekend.

The defending champions have won 47 games in a row dating back to last season.

"It's hard to believe it's already coming to an end here," the former Swift Current Wildcat said. "It's been a really good year for us. We're just happy to have the opportunity to make it to the Frozen Four again."

The Golden Gophers needed triple overtime against North Dakota last weekend to advance to the national championship.

They are now the host team with a chance to repeat as champions.

Gillanders, a defenceman, has a career high 12 points in 39 games while playing a shut down role.

"I'm just a very defensive d-man," Gillanders said. "I'm sent out there to defend their top players. Obviously as you get older you get more confidence to try new things and you get used to the level of the game."

This is the third season for Gillanders in the NCAA.

The Golden Gophers will play in the semi-final on Friday with the championship game set for Sunday.
