Baylee Gillanders


A Kyle product reached pinnacle of NCAA women's hockey.

Baylee Gillanders and the University of Minnesota beat Wisconsin 4-2 in the NCAA girls hockey championship last weekend.

"It was a dream come true," Gillanders said. "It's something you work for your whole life."

She recoutns the final seconds of the game.

"It was just awesome. It was almost hard to believe. You look up... I saw my parents.. They were there just smiling. It was a great feeling. Just to be able to have that experience with all the people that were there. It was just truly awesome."

Gillanders credits their strong talent base and very good chemistry with the victory.

It's the first national championship for Gillanders and the first for Minnesota since 2005.

Gillanders was in her second NCAA season. She is a former member of the Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats.
