Luke Siemens For Moose Jaw Warrior Goalie

WHL draft day also included its fair share of major deals.

The goaltending dominos started to fall as Lethbridge Hurricanes added All-Star overage Goalie Ty Rimmer of the Tri City Americans in exchange for a 2nd round pick in 2013 and 3rd rounder in 2014.

Prince Albert picked up overage netminder Luke Siemens from Moose Jaw for a 4th round draft pick in this draft and a 3rd round draft pick in 2013.

While the Broncos do have question marks in net, that kind of price was too high for them, “We’re always looking to get better,” said Coach/GM Mark Lamb. “We’re not looking to give up that type of price when we’re still building. When we’re sitting at the draft table and the price is so high… we can just be patient. We’ve got the European draft coming up, we’ve got trades we could make, (but) we just didn’t think it was right to jump into those kinds of sweepstakes.”

Other deals included the 2013 Memorial Cup hosting Saskatoon Blades adding Shane McColgan and Jessey Astles from the Kelowna Rockets, and Brenden Walker from Brandon. Prince George also made several deals involving early round picks.
