The WHL has nominated Jon Groenheyde of the Swift Current Broncos for the CHL Goaltender of the Week Award.

Groenheyde went 1-1 over the weekend with one shut-out, stopping 77 of the 79 shots he faced for a 0.975 save-percentage and 1.01 goals-against average.

It's the first time Groenheyde has been nominated for the award.

"It means a lot obviously," Groenheyde said. "It means my hard work is paying off. It's always nice to get recognized for something like that."

Groenheyde earned his second career shut-out in the Broncos 4-0 win over the Red Deer Rebels on Friday.

"They put a lot of pucks to the net so it kind of kept me in the game," Groenheyde said. "We did a good job of limited their grade A scoring chances."

Both of Groenheyde's shut-outs have come against the Rebels. He also stopped 32 shots as they came up just short in a 2-1 loss to the conference leading Edmonton Oil Kings on Saturday.

Groenheyde and the Broncos host the Kootenay Ice tonight and tickets are only $2 due to a special "Two-Two-Tuesday" promotion. We'll have the call for you on The Eagle 94.1 starting with our pre-game show at 6:30pm.
