Southwest native, Marc Habscheid, was in the running for the vacant head coaching job in Vancouver, but yesterday the Canucks went with a former Montreal Canadien bench boss.

Instead, the Vancouver Canucks promoted from within, naming Manitoba Moose Coach, Alain Vigneault, as their new head coach.

The ex-Montreal coach led the Canucks' top farm club to its first 100-point season and the second round of the A-H-L playoffs.

Vigneaut replaces Marc Crawford, who was fired in April.

Habscheid is presently the head coach for Canada's National hockey program.
