Swift Current Broncos defenceman Dillon Heatherington will be suiting up in the World Junior Hockey Championship.

The Calgary native and Columbus Blue Jackets draft pick survived the final cuts and will suit up for Team Canada in the under 20 tournament.

Heatherington is in his fourth WHL season and has twice attended Canada's summer evaluation camp. He was invited to main training camp this season and was one of seven to make the final roster out of a pool of ten players. Red Deer's Haydn Fleury was the final defenceman cut.

Swift Current's alternate captain has 11 points in 30 games this season. He has played 229 career regular season games with the Broncos.

Heatherington and Team Canada open the tournament hosted in Toronto and Montreal on Boxing Day.

The Broncos resume their schedule on Saturday, December 27th at home against Regina.
