All three Swift Current Broncos representing their countries at the World Junior Championships were in action on day one Tuesday afternoon.

The first to hit the ice was Artyom Minulin, who was held off the stat sheet in a 5-4 Russian loss to the Czech Republic.

Then, Tyler Steenbergen and Team Canada topped Aleksi Heponiemi and Finland 4-2.

Steenbergen didn't log significant ice time in the win, finishing the game with a 0 +/-, and a minor penalty. Meanwhile, Heponiemi put a loose puck past Everett Silvertips' goaltender Carter Hart for Finland's first goal of the tournament. The WHL's leading scorer (71 points) also finished with two shots on net and a -1 rating.

Steenbergen is the lone Bronco on the ice on Wednesday as he and Team Canada face Slovakia at 6 p.m. Saskatchewan time, looking to move two 2-0 in Group A.

Also on the ice Wednesday evening are the rest of the Swift Current Broncos, who play host to the Moose Jaw Warriors in the first game back after the Christmas break, and for the fifth time already this season.

The Warriors bring the best record in the WHL (27-6-1-1) to Swift Current without forward Brett Howden, who is also on Team Canada alongside Steenbergen.

The Broncos look to duplicate their pre-Christmas success that has them currently riding a five-game winning streak, as well as the WHL's second-best record (25-7-2-0).

Game one of a home-and-home with the Moose Jaw Warriors is Wednesday at 7 p.m. from the Innovation Credit Union iPlex.

Catch all the action live on the Eagle 94.1 for Robertson Family Group Swift Current Broncos hockey starting at 6:30 p.m. with puck drop at 7 p.m.

Both teams are back for a sixth meeting to round out the home-and-home Thursday in Moose Jaw.
