It was a rewarding weekend for the Herbert Laurels boys’ basketball team as they came home from HOOPLA (SHSAA provincial championships) with a silver medal.  The championship this year was held in Saskatoon.  Teams in all categories – 1A through 5A – gather for 3 days of competition.  The #2 seeded Laurels started the 1A boys’ tournament on Friday against LCBI (Outlook).  The first half was very close and was tied at 40 entering the third quarter.  But the Laurels persevered and got the 83-70 win.  This put them in the gold medal match on Saturday against the #1 seeded team from Coronach.  The Laurels kept with the very strong team but were defeated 70-65 and received the silver medal.

The Swift Current Ardens entered the 5A girls’ tournament as the #2 seeded team from the North.  The first game on Thursday saw the Ardens take on the #3 seed from the south – Notre Dame.  The Ardens lost by a score of 82-55.  This put them on the consolation side of the tournament.  On Friday, they met Saskatoon St. Joseph’s.  The Ardens’ seasoned ended with a 58-45 loss.
