The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce 1986 born goaltender Anthony Heuer of the Melville Millionaires as the winner of the EE Henning Memorial Trophy, awarded to the SJHL’s Most Valuable Player. Heuer factored in 48 of his team’s 58 games and posted a record of 24-16-1-and-7.  He had a GAA of 2.87 and a league leading SPCT of .919.  In addition, the 2.89 goals per game in offensive support was the lowest for any starting goaltender who played on a team with a winning record.  Heuer’s GAA was 2.67 and his SPCT .923 when excluding the team’s opening weekend in which they lost their first two games to the Estevan Bruins, allowing fifteen goals in the process.  As a team, the Mils really took off after December 1st and Heuer was a big reason why.  He factored in on 23 of 27 games, going 13-6-0-and-3 with a 2.36-GAA and a SPCT of .930. Heuer ranked first in minutes played (3014) and second in wins.  From November 18th on, Heuer never allowed more than four goals in a game. Heuer’s emergence is a victory for unheralded players.  After a minor hockey career void of significant time at the Midget ‘AAA’ level, Heuer played his first season of junior with the Fort Qu’Appelle Fort Knox of the Prairie Junior Hockey League.  He backed up Michael Clements as a seldom used 19-year-old rookie with the Mils last season.   The 5’9” 170 lbs native of Swift Current SK is the second goalie in four years to win the award (Battlefords’ Justin Pesony won in 2004) and he’s the first Millionaire to be named SJHL M-V-P since Brian Propp did it as a 16-year-old in 1976.
