The K-Motel Midget Hurricanes took command of their second-round provincial playoff series with a 7-1 blowout win over the Estevan Bruins Thursday night at the Fairview Arenas.

The score will carry over to the second game of the two-game total point series, set for February 1st in Estevan.

"It was just a good effort by everybody for a full 60 minutes," said Hurricanes Coach Scott Cassidy. "That's what our team has been striving to get to through the whole season so far. We just want to put a 60-minute effort out there every time, and tonight the kids brought it. They got amped up, they're excited to play in provincials, and it really showed with the result tonight."

Marcus Kouri and Dreiden Gauthier both had four-point nights for the Hurricanes with two goals and two assists. Braden Wittmier also had a pair of goals and Rhett Carlson added a marker of his own.

The win also extends a long unbeaten streak for the Hurricanes, who have won or tied all 14 games they have played since November 22nd.

"In the first little bit of the season, we had 13 new players to the AA program, so they have to get used to our system, and we are new coaches this year, and now we've really brought it together," Cassidy added. "The kids have bought in to what we do, and they play hard every night for us. That's all we ask for every night and we're egtting results, so we've got to keep that going."

The Hurricanes have three league games this weekend, starting tonight when they visit the Regina Vics. They will also host Weyburn on Saturday night and the Notre Dame Bantam Hounds on Sunday afternoon.

In Midget AAA action, the Evans Brothers Home Hardware Legionnaires were blanked 6-0 by the Moose Jaw Generals on the road Thursday night. The Legionnaires have games in Saskatoon this weekend, and return home on January 31st when they host the Prince Albert Mintos.

The SWT Pee Wee Broncos opened play at a tournament in Regina on Thursday with a 5-2 win over the Regina Tigers. Action continues through the weekend.
