Jake DeBrusk scored twice as the Swift Current Broncos fell 3-2 in overtime to the upstart Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Ryley Lindgren scored in an exciting 3 on 3 overtime to complete what was an entertaining hockey game between the two clubs.

“It was a good game,” said Broncos associate coach Ryan Smith. “I think we bit into it right away and had a little bit more jump to our step. (Lethbridge) is a really good hockey team and they're not going to surprise anyone anymore.”

“There was some really good things we did out there.”

Landon Bow made 37 saves to bounce back from a rough outing in Moose Jaw on Wednesday.

“He admitted that for whatever reason it wasn't his night (in Moose Jaw),” Smith said. “But what a bounce back game. Particularly in the third period when it's 2-1 for Lethbridge they had some opportunities to make it 3-1 and that probably puts it out of reach. He holds us in, we get a tie and we get the point.”

“Sucked in rebounds, he was vocal out there and he did everything he had to do last night.”

Swift Current took a 1-0 lead in the first period as Jon Martin's shot deflected in off DeBrusk's skate. The assist extended Martin's point streak to ten games.

Lethbridge tied the game in the second period on a nice give-and-go finished by Giorgio Estephan. Both teams skated well and traded chances without either really taking over.

“We didn't have any real lapses tonight,” Smith said. “There was a shift here or there that could have been better. Looking down the bench the guys gave a good effort.”

Egor Bobenko pulled Lethbridge ahead with a quick shot off a tied face-off midway through the third period. The Broncos pulled back even after DeBrusk won a battle at his own blue line and created a partial break shorthanded before ripping a shot by Jayden Sittler low blocker.

Swift Current had DeBrusk, Martin and Glenn Gawain back together and they had a strong game while battling Lethbridge's top line. As well as they played the Broncos do need some other lines to provide some offense when they're together.

“There's a lot of offense on that unit,” Smith said. “Martin led our team in hits tonight, Jake was good at takeaways and Glenn was pretty good in the draw. They're not just scoring they're doing other stuff. The rest of the group has to find a way to chip in. We can't lean on one or two guys. That's too hard on us and too easy on other teams to focus on those guys.”

Swift Current was missing Kade Jensen in the game due to a two-game suspension for a cross checking major earlier in the week.

Lethbridge moved to 7-2 with the while and the Broncos fell to 4-6-2-0.

The Broncos are back on home ice Saturday taking on the Moose Jaw Warriors. Moose Jaw handed Swift Current a 6-1 loss on Wednesday and the Broncos will be looking for a little revenge.
