Action between the Hurricanes and River Kings at Saskatoon's Harold Latrace Arena

The K-Motel Midget Hurricanes have a big hill to climb in their provincial Midget AA final series against the Saskatoon River Kings.

Marcus Kouri opened the scoring for the Hurricanes early in the first period, but the River Kings replied with six straight goals to take the first game of the two-game total-point series 6-1 at Saskatoon's Harold Latrace Arena on Thursday night. The score carries over to Saturday's second game in Swift Current.

"The boys came with the right attitude and were ready to work, but we just didn't execute our plan," said Hurricanes Coach Scott Cassidy. "We looked a little rusty after being off for a couple of days, and didn't play well as we have all season. I do believe that we can come back by five goals on these guys, and we just need that group that's played well all season to show up on Saturday night."

Cassidy adds they need a full game effort to overcome the deficit with the championship on the line.

"We just got to carry it out there for the full 60, right from the first minute of the game," he said. "Get the puck in deep, work their defence, and get on our forecheck right away and keep it going all game. We've got to get the first one on Saturday night and just then carry through from there.

"It's our last game no matter what," Cassidy added. "We've got nothing to hold back. We've got eight 17-year-olds on this team and this will be their last game of their minor hockey career, and I'm expecting a good effort on Saturday night."

The final game will be at Fairview Arenas Saturday at 7:30pm.

In other minor hockey, the Swift Current Pee Wee A Broncos dropped a 5-2 decision to Warman in game two of their provincial final at home Thursday night. Warman won the provincial championship with a total score of 8-4.
