The K-Motel Hurricanes have made a heartbreaking early exit from Midget AA provincials, losing 4-3 in triple-overtime to the Notre Dame Argos last night at home.

The Hurricanes built a 3-0 lead in the first period on goals by Hayden Johnston, Keegan Braaten and Jayden Roosen, only to have it erased by the Argos in the second period.

Coach Tim Tisdale says that told the story.

“Veteran guys making mistakes out there, that you don't expect to make mistakes, and we just stopped skating...It's a lesson learned for us but it's a painful lesson.”

Cole Golka got the OT winner on the powerplay to lift Notre Dame into the second round, with an 8-7 total score over the two-game series.

The Hurricanes also outshot the Argos 55-35 over regulation and overtime.

Tisdale said the guys were disappointed and exhausted.

“Our guys were pretty tired at the end there. We knew it would come down to a bad bounce and really that what it was, just a puck that bounced over our defenceman's stick and right to a guy who was wide open out front.”

The Hurricanes now turn their focus to league play, where they lead the standings with a 17-2-4 record, and host Lumsden/Bethune on Saturday.
