The Swift Current K-Motel Hurricanes are heading into 2014 on a bit of a roll.

They've won three straight games away from home and are in a tigh three team battle on top of the South Saskatchewan Midget AA league.

Coach Greg Hurrell sites play in their own zone has been a big factor in their success.

"We have the best goaltender in the league," Hurrell said. "Plus our defence. If you can shut them down in your end defensively that's the key. Our penalty kill is fantastic."

They've given up a league low 45 goals through 21 games. Swift Current sits in third place in what has been a very tight four-team race at the top of the standings.

They're on the road this weekend against the cellar dwellars from Melville and Yorkton.

"Every game is a battle in this league," Hurrell said. "The goaltending is fantastic. We have to keep the pedal to the metal all the time."

The Hurricanes are 13-5-3 on the season so far.
