The K-Motel Midget Hurricanes stole a win of their own from the Moose Jaw Midget Warriors, as they won 2-1 on a goal by Brody Knelsen with seven minutes to go in the game.

Drieden Gauthier scored the other goal for the Hurricanes, who were playing their home opener at the Fairview Arenas.

"I think all 19 guys are coming together as a group here, and it shows on the ice," said Hurricanes Coach Scott Cassidy. "I think our work ethic is second-to-none in the league, and that's going to carry us through 60-minute games over and over again. I think we'll have a great group by the time playoffs come, and we'll just build game after game."

The Hurricanes visit the Regina Capitals on Thursday and then have two more home games next weekend.

In other minor hockey, the Diamond Energy Female Midget Wildcats picked up a weekend sweep of the Melville Prairie Fire with a 3-1 win Saturday and a 3-0 victory on Sunday.
