Conrad Funk’s 16-year career with the Swift Current Indians will be recognized and honoured in a special presentation before tonight’s regular season home finale against the Moose Jaw Miller Express. Funk heads up a group of nine Tribe members who, due to new WMBL rules, will be ineligible for play in 2012.

Funk joined the Indians in 1996, just in time for a run of three straight championships in what was then known as the Saskatchewan Major Baseball League. Funk quickly became an indispensable part of the club, through his time playing NCAA Division I ball at Winthrop University and beyond, eventually winning five more WMBL titles – in 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006, and 2010 – for a total of eight championships with the Indians. Over the past nine seasons he’s hit for a .323 average with 84 doubles, 31 home runs, and 246 RBI.

Also playing their last-ever regular season games at Mitchell Field tonight will be Shawn Lee, Dan Rogers, Tim Jones, Chad Jones, Joey Evans, Parris Austin, Craig Killshaw, and Sam Stahl. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
