Indains Generic Bench

The Swift Current Indians clinched top spot in the eastern side of the WMBL playoff bracket with their 11-8 win in Melville on Sunday.

"It's always nice to be on top," said Indians Coach Joe Carnahan. "It's a tribute to these guys and the hard work they put in throughout the season."

Joe Carnahan Interview"When they playoffs start it's baseball. It doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot other than the site you're playing,"

Swift Current won the Central Division and is guaranteed at least a tie with East Division leading Melville. They won the season series with the Millionaires so they will finish ahead of them in the WMBL standings.

The two playoff teams from the Central Division cross over to the East and West Divisions for the playoffs. Swift Current will wind up as the top ranked team in the East Division and play Weyburn.

The Indians will host the Beavers Monday night in their final regular season home game and it'll serve as a preview of that first round match up.

It's also an opportunity for the Indians to rest some key veterans or anyone who is a little banged up.

"We just have to make sure all our pitchers are rested and ready to go," Carnahan said. "All our position guys are rested and ready to go. If we do have some guys that are nicked up we do have the ability to use these two days here to give them some extra rest."

"We're going to go out and compete and do what we can do to win."

Swift Current product Reiley Groese gets the start for the Tribe. He has only made 7 appearances this year as he has battled an injury.

"He's bounced back here and he'll do a good job for us," Carnahan noted. "He got hurt early... he's a very talented pitcher. It'll be nice to get him some more innings now so we can start going to him a little more in the playoffs.

We'll talk about the game during Home Hardware's Overtime from 6-7pm tonight on The Eagle 94.1
