indians starting lineup

The Swift Current Indians continued their strong play last night as they first won a continued game from earlier this year against Weyburn 5-2 and then beat the Beavers 6-1. The second game was scoreless until the fifth and sixth when the Indians broke it open scoring three runs in each inning.

Both ends of the unique doubleheader were only seven innings.

Seven of nine Indians had hits with six different guys getting the RBI's. Swift Current's Chad Schultz went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Kirk Haviland, Tanner Morache, Alex Mortensen and Cam Newell each had two hits as well.

Garrett Anderson picked up the Win for the tribe who now have a record of 27-17. They have already clinched the Central Division securing home field advantage for the first round of play-offs which starts early next week.

The day started on an odd note as the two teams had to pick up the WMBL season opener where they had left it off two months ago. The teams were tied at 2 in the fifth inning of their opener when rain forced a delay.

Swift Current struck right out of the gate as they picked the game up in the sixth inning. Brennan Peterson drove in the winning run with a double and Aaron Dunsmore followed with a single that scored two. Chris Haddeland made sure the 5-2 lead held up as he picked up the victory in relief.

This weekend though they wrap up the regular season with a couple games Saturday and Sunday at home against the Yellow Jackets. Saskatoon is a game behind Moose Jaw for the final playoff spot in the Central Division.

The Indians will start the playoffs at home against the second place team in the West Division. Lethbridge and Okotoks are currently tied in that spot heading into the weekend.
