Kirk Haviland went 3 for 4 in Swift Current's loss to Saskatoon

On the final day of the WMBL regular season, the Swift Current Indians had their nine game winning streak snapped.

The Tribe fell 6-1 to the Sasktoon Yellow Jackets.

Even though the game couldn't impact the standings for either team, Indians Coach Joe Carnahan didn't blame a lack of motivation.

"Any opportunity you get to play baseball, especially in nice weather and we had another nice crowd," said Carnaahan. "It's unfortunate that we didn't play very well."

The Indians weren't sharp on the field as they committed 6 errors.

"We didn't play defence very well," Carnahan noted. "Our pitchers did a pretty good job... if you don't play defence (and) you play teams that can hit like this, they're going to capitalize on it."

Four pitchers shared duties for the Tribe with none throwing more than three innings. Myles Ethier took the loss.

Outfielder Aaron Dunsmore collected 2 hits for Swift Current to finish the season with an above .400 batting average. At .403 he ranks third in the WMBL.

It was quite a different story for the Indians after they had blown Saskatoon out 17-4 on Saturday. That loss knocked the Yellow Jackets out of the playoffs.

Heading into last night's game the Indians already knew who they would be playing in the first round of the playoffs. An 8-5 win over Melville vaulted Lethbridge ahead of Okotoks for second place in the West Division and a date with Swift Current.

The Indians won all four games against the Bulls this season, but finished the regular season with only one more win than Lethbridge.

Games 1 and 2 are slated for Tuesday and Wednesday nights in Swift Current. We will have live broadcasts of all Indians playoff road games on The Eagle 94.1 FM.
