The Swift Current Indians picked up 2 big victories in Melville yesterday over the Millionaires.
The 2 teams met yesterday for a pair of 7-inning games, after their Saturday match-up was rained out.
Game 1 of the 2 game set featured a solid pitching performance from Swift Current starter Aaron Godinez.
Godinez went the distance, pitching all 7 innings. The California native surrendered just 1 run, scattering 9 hits, while striking out 9 in a 4-1 victory.
All of the Tribes offence came off of 2 big swings.
In the 2nd inning, Nate Ackerman took Melville Starting Pitcher Anothony Duen deep for a 3-run shot.
1 inning later, in the top of the 3rd, Darren Kolk took his turn leaving the park, hitting a solo blast off of Duen.
In game 2 of the double header, Jose Rojas got the Tribe on the board with a 3-run home run in the top of the 3rd.
Swift Current scored their 4th run of the game in the 5th inning, when Tyler Enns came into score on a passed ball.
In the 6th, the Indians tacked on another, as Drew Brooks scored on a wild pitch, before Rojas hit his 2nd home run of the game in the 7th.
Justin Disbro got the win on the mound, throwing 4 innings of shutout baseball in the 6-2 victory.
The Tribe will now head to Okotoks for a pair of games against the Dawgs, being played tomorrow and Wednesday, before returning to Mitchell Field Thursday night against Edmonton.
