A couple of weeks since a 2017 Canada Summer Games baseball gold medal, Swift Current's Logan Fritzke is reflecting on the team's big win.

Saskatchewan took down host Manitoba 3-1 in the gold medal game in front of over 7000 fans.

However, the summer games didn't get off to the hottest of starts for Team Saskatchewan, going 3-3 in Group A round robin play, while getting outscored 21-15 in those six games.

The slow start on the diamond, according to Fritzke, extended to his own game - but the confidence in his abilities paid off.

"I struggled a bit the first few games but I knew I'd get another chance to prove myself, and I did," he said. "It shows that hard work pays off - never give up no matter what happens, and just keep doing your best."

Fortunately for the Midget 'AAA' 57's infielder and Team Sask, they were able to narrowly clinch a bye into a semi final over fellow 3-3 team British Columbia.

Team Sask would go on to face Team Ontario in the semis, winning 7-0, while advancing to the gold medal game.

This wasn't the first shot at the top spot for Fritzke and Team Sask, as the second baseman donned the green-and-white last summer, where they took home the 2016 Canada Cup baseball championship.

Although it may not have been the first time being crowned as the nation's best team, the atmosphere at the Canada Summer Games may have made 2017's gold medal even sweeter for Fritzke.

"It was really exciting doing it last year, but this year it was probably a bit better because of all the fans that were there... It felt really good to kind of quiet them down with the win - it was an amazing feeling."

The infielder went 1-for-2 in the gold medal game, with a single and a walk in two at-bats, and finished the tournament with a .333 average (7-for-21), one RBI, and drawing four walks.

Up next for Fritzke, another year on the Prairie Purple regional team at the annual 'Tournament 12'. The national amateur baseball tournament held at Rogers Centre provides an opportunity for the best 160 amateur Canadian baseball players with college eligibility to showcase their talents.

Tournament 12 gets underway September 14, 2017.
