Heward Broncos 2
Jamie Heward

Former NHLer Jamie Heward will be announced as the new Director of Player Development and Assistant Coach of the Swift Current Broncos on Thursday.

Heward joins the Broncos after Andy Schneider left his assistant coaching duties with the team to join the Columbus Blue Jackets as a scout.

Heward played 19 seasons of professional hockey, including 394 NHL games for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Nashville Predators, New York Islanders, Columbus Blue Jackets, Washington Capitals, Los Angeles Kings and Tampa Bay Lightning.

He also played in Swiss and Russian leagues.

Heward was a star defenceman for the Regina Pats over four seasons in the late 80s.

His role is expected to include significant time working in Swift Current and travelling to work with Bronco prospects.

Heward joins Head Coach/GM Mark Lamb and Assistant Coach Darren Evjen on the Bronco coaching staff.
