Sometimes it just isn't meant to be.

That was the case this afternoon at the Credit Union iPlex, when Satsuki Fujisawa and Team Japan could do no wrong in an 11-2 thumping of Chelsea Carey and Team Canada.

“That was one where we just couldn’t buy one and you have those sometimes. Finland had it against us last night and that is what happened to us this morning. We weren’t that far off, we were just off and they punished us every time. It happens, it’s not like we played terribly we just couldn’t quite get things in the right place and I don’t think they missed a shot,” Carey said outside of the locker room following the loss.

Japan put the pressure on Canada early, opening the game with a deuce, before stealing two more in the second.

Fujisawa and her rink then put the game to bed in the sixth end when the Japanese Skip made a hit and stick for five.

“The confidence is definitely carrying us through today. Middle of the week, it really could have gone either way but the team has responded and right now they are super loose and going out there and not over-thinking anything,” said Japanese Coach JD Lind.

Team Canada will now face a win or go home situation tonight when they take on Scotland. Both Eve Muirhead's rink and Carey’s own records of 7-3 and with Russia, Switzerland and Japan all having clinched playoff spots, the loser of tonight’s draw will be sent home.

Tonight’s draw will get underway at 7:00pm.
