(Kale Kessy after being drafted by Phoenix)

Shaunavon native Kale Kessy got the full NHL Draft experience over the weekend.

The Medicine Hat Tigers forward attended the draft in Minnesota and was in the stands when Phoenix selected him in the fourth round, 111th overall.

Kessy says after getting his first Coytoes jersey he had the opportunity to eat with club officials and get to know them a little.

He says Phoenix had talked to him a number of times before the draft and he thought there was a possibility they would take him.

Kessy adds it's a dream come true but the real work starts now.

He scored 10 goals and had 24 points this season.

Kessy also fought eleven times and says Phoenix liked the gritty side of his game.

He also notes the prospect of playing a game in his home town this fall is pretty exciting.

Shaunavon is hosting an exhibition game between Kessy's Tigers and Dyson Stevenson's Regina Pats in September.
