A tough day for the local Max Kirkpatrick rink at the SaskTel Southern Men's Curling Playdowns in Swift Current, as he dropped both of his games yesterday, including a 10-6 decision to Alan Batty last night.

Batty built an 8-1 lead by the fourth end, but Kirkpatrick says his rink did their best to battle back. "We just didn't start curling until the 4th end... we made a good comeback anyway and we kinda showed ourselves we can still curl, so hopefully we can just keep that momentum."

Kirkpatrick plays again this afternoon in a C-event game, where he'll face either Garrett Vey or Glenn Batty who play this morning at 8:30pm.

Meanwhile, Rod Quintin of the Swift Current Curling Club edged Vey 6-5 to move on to the B-Event Quarterfinals, where he'll take on Jeff Hartung this morning at 8:30am.

Three of the five qualifiers for next month's SaskTel Tankard in Assiniboia will be determined today, with the first coming from the A-Final where Brent Gedak takes on Randy Bryden this afternoon at 4:30pm. The B-Finals will then be held at 8:30pm, all from the Swift Current Curling Club at the Credit Union iplex.
