A pair of Diamond Energy Female Midget AAA Wildcats will trade in their team's colours for Team Saskatchewan jerseys this November.

Defenceman Taylor Kirwan (Gull Lake) and forward Taylor Lind (Shaunavon) both have cracked the Team Sask roster ahead of the National Women’s Under-18 Championships.

The Wildcats duo was part of the 27-player tryout looking to crack the 20-player final cuts in Regina over the weekend, and competed in an exhibition tournament against post-secondary competition - Lind was one of two 16-year-olds competing in camp, and the only one to make the team.

Also on the team is Wildcats bench boss Terry Pavely, who will serve as head coach for Team Sask.

Tasked with evaluating his own players, the veteran coach says both Kirwan and Lind knew they had to compete at a high level to make the team - and compete they did.

"Taylor Kirwan knows what it's about. She played (at nationals) last year, and got Team Canada experience this summer - I don't think this was really an adjustment for her," he said. "I really thought Taylor Lind got better as the weekend went on - a little bit of that attributes to just getting more comfortable. She did a lot of the little things right."

"They didn't get a free pass and they both had to earn it. As a whole staff, we felt that they both deserved to be there, and they're both going to get opportunities to help our team contribute."

The National Women’s Under-18 Championships will be held November 1-5 in Quebec City.

Meanwhile, Lind and Kirwan are in SFMAAAHL action this weekend when they host the Regina Rebels Saturday and Sunday at Fairview West.

Kirwan is the league-leader in points with five through the first two games, while Lind has a pair of goals.
