The Swift Current Broncos are looking for a new bench boss.

Head Coach/GM Mark Lamb has accepted a position as the first coach of the American Hockey League's Tucson Roadrunners. They are the new AHL affiliate of the NHL's Arizona Coyotes recently relocated from Springfield, Massachusetts.

Lamb replaces former NHL head coach Ron Rolston who wasn't retained when the team relocated.

“We are very pleased to add Mark Lamb as our head coach for the Tucson Roadrunners,” said Coyotes General Manager John Chayka in an official press release. “Mark is an experienced NHL coach who did an excellent job developing young players in Swift Current for many years. He previously worked with Dave Tippett in Dallas and we are confident that this will be a great fit for our organization.”

Lamb spent six seasons as an assistant coach under Tippett with the Stars. Dallas twice won Pacific Division titles and made the post-season five times during his time with the organization.

The Cadillac product ran the Broncos for seven seasons compiling a 222-236-17-29 record in the regular season with four playoff appearances.

2013-14 was his best season in Swift Current as they went 38-25-3-6 and tied for the most points in the East Division with the Regina Pats. Medicine Hat knocked them out of the playoffs in a hotly contested first round series.

The Coyotes noted Lamb's player development in making the hire. He has helped guide several players to the professional ranks during his time in Swift Current including Dallas Stars forward Cody Eakin and Winnipeg Jets forward Adam Lowry.

The Broncos also had back-to-back seasons with first round NHL draft picks when Julius Honka went to Dallas in 2014 and Jake DeBrusk to Boston in 2015.

Lamb scored 46 goals and 100 assists in 403 career NHL games. He won a Stanley Cup with Edmonton in 1990 and was one of their top scorers during that playoff run.

Swift Current will now be looking for their seventh head coach since the Broncos returned from Lethbridge in 1986. The position has been a combined Coach/GM role for the vast majority of the organization's history.

The Broncos still has assistant GM/director of player personnel Jamie Porter, associate coach Ryan Smith, assistant coach/director of player development Jamie Heward and goaltending consultant Derek Purfield on staff in hockey operations.

They have scheduled a media conference for Wednesday morning to address the story.
