lamb-interview

The Swift Current Broncos and their head coach and GM Mark Lamb have agreed to terms on a new three-year contract.

He says the relationship between him and the Broncos has been successful due partly to the good communication between him and the Board.

"The first couple of years was tough, it was be getting to know the league, it was me getting to know the players, me trying to get to know the business, I think I was very patient and I look back and talk to a lot of people and took advice from a lot of people and just started learning. The board has been unbelievable, I have been very upfront with them in different situations, given them my thoughts on how a hockey team should be run and what type of players we should have in here," said Lamb.

Lamb now has the longest consecutive tenure as head coach with one club among current coaches with a total of six years.

He says he and the team are in the middle of a rebuild and feels like the job is unfinished:

"My boot prints and footprints are all over it now. I'm very proud of some of the things we have done, I'm proud of the type of team that we are trying to build and I'm very optimistic of the future. It's been the last few years when you get a team that's moving in the right direction, it's kind of unfinished business but you don't want to leave when you're in the middle of something," said Lamb.

Lamb was entering the last year of his previous three-year deal and that year has been expunged in favor of this new contract.

He says he never really had the goal of staying with the Broncos for so long, but wanted to build credibility for himself and the franchise.

"To do that you have to do a good job. You have to build something exciting for myself I wanted to improve, I wanted to improve in the management, I wanted to improve as a coach, and you have to get the experience to do that," said Lamb.

Lamb has been part of the coaching staff for the Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars before becoming the head coach of the Broncos.
