A methodical beatdown of the Battlefords Stars was the result of a weekend on the road for the Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires.

Swift Current cruised to a pair of 5-0 shutout wins on their trip north on Highway 4.

Saturday night's game had the Legionnaires' goals put home by five different players.

Christian Albertson scored a powerplay goal to open the flood gates, with Riley Dekowny also burying a first-period shot.

After a scoreless second period, Swift scored three in the third.

Boston Bird stretched the lead to three with a powerplay marker, and both Chase Gallant and Jaxon Martens scored as well to close out the game.

Mason Strutt added three assists, while rookie goaltender Jacob Herman turned aside 17 shots in the win.

Sunday saw veteran-heavy scoring, as Bird led the way with four points (1 G, 3 A), followed closely by Strutt (2 G, 1 A), and Reed Jacobson (1 G, 2 A).

Captain Lucas Ochitwa had two assists, while rookie blueliner Joe Arntsen had a goal and an assist.

"The one thing that switched into today's game is our D really made little puck plays like we know they can - they did a really good job. Off that, our forwards are getting the puck on the tape, and then we can use our speed," said Legionnaires head coach Darren Evjen. "We kind of got back today for the way we can play. We played fast, and we moved the puck well. Our discipline was really good this weekend. Those two combinations kind of really pole vaulted us into the four points."

Again it was Herman recording the shutout between the pipes, this time needing to make 25 saves to preserve the clean sheet.

"Herm had a great weekend, he made the stops when we needed them - probably more so today than yesterday. But, when we needed a save he was there for us," said Evjen. "Just really was consistent for both games for us, and kept us even-keeled. Then when we had an opportunity to get ahead, we slowly chipped away and probably made the game easier for him then when you get the lead."

Herman, who backs up starter Ethan Hein, now carries a sturdy 7-2 record, .910 save-percentage, and 2.46 goals-against-average on the season for the Legionnaires.

A big week of practice is ahead for Swift Current, prepping for a matchup that the Legionnaires shouldn't need help finding motivation for.

"We'll continue to work at the little things. We're getting better, but we need to get pucks into open areas and skate to it. I think just keep working on our forecheck as a group," said Evjen.

The second-place Legionnaires (10-4-0-0) host the league-leading Saskatoon Blazers (14-2-0-1) for a weekend set at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex.

"Going into the weekend, it's a big weekend. If we have a good weekend, we can gain a lot," Evjen noted. "It's going to take a lot of work, and we've just got to worry about Friday night - that's the biggest game right now we've got to worry about."

The Legionnaires will have their hands full keeping a strong Blazers offence in check (4.29 goals-per-game), but their bench boss is confident in the outcome if they play to their ability.

"If we get into our game where we're defending well, we're not giving up many chances, and we move the puck quickly, and we're aggressive with the puck, we like our game." Evjen explained. "When we do that, we can play with anybody, and we feel good about what we do. We can stay together, and if we've got to win it in the last minute, we feel we can do that - but we've got to be playing our game to be comfortable with that."

Friday's game between the Legionnaires and Blazers is set for 8 p.m. at the iPlex.
