Handshakes after last night's Legionnaire win

The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires picked up two big points last night as they beat the Notre Dame Argos 5-4 at the Credit Union I-Plex. The Legion won despite being outshot 49-31.


Swift Current forward Justin Spagrud was the first star of the game potting a goal and adding an assist.

"I feel like we are finally coming around as a team," Spagrud said. "(We are) rebuilding and it's only going up from here."

The left winger scored the winning goal on a rebound from Matthew Audette's shot.

Swift Current forward Tim Vanstone left the game after a hit to the head by the Argos Austin Lightfoot. Vanstone had a goal and an assist before his injury. The Legionnaires went 2 for 8 on the power play. Swift Current is now tied for sixth place in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League along with the Argos and the Saskatoon Blazers, all teams having 16 points.


Next action for the Legionnaires is on the weekend when they head to North Battleford to take on the Stars on both Saturday and Sunday.

In other local hockey, the WW Smith Female Midget AA Titans picked up a 3-2 win on the road last night in Caronport against the Moose Jaw Warriors.  The Titans next action is Monday Night when they host the Notre Dame Hounds at 8:30pm from Fairview East.
