The Evans Brothers Home Hardware Legionnaires picked up a 4-1 win over the Notre Dame Argos in Saskatchewan Midget AAA action Tuesday night at the Credit Union iplex.

"I think it was a must-win for us," said Coach Dale Vossen. "This is a team that's behind us, and if we're going to make a push for the playoffs, we've got to start winning games. We can't leave any points on the table, and I told the guys it was a great team effort right from the goaltender out."

Brody Doepker had a goal and an assist, and Tristan Hermanson, Gage Misskey and Connor Odelein also scored for Swift Current. Goalie Caleb Lumbard made 34 saves as the Legionnaires outshot the Argos 41-35.

"I think we've got to find that compete level every night," Vossen added. "We have to compete for loose pucks and be physical. It's one of those things where when we're not physical, and we don't work hard or compete, we're not a real good hockey team."

The Legionnaires visit the Moose Jaw Generals Thursday night before travelling to Saskatoon to take on the Contacts and Blazers this weekend. They return home on January 31st when they start a two-game set with the Prince Albert Mintos.

Meanwhile, the SWT Pee Wee Broncos opened the second round of provincials with a 6-4 win over Weyburn at the Fairview Arenas. Reed Jacobson had two goals for the Broncos while Taylor Lind had a goal and two helpers.

The two-game total-point series wraps up January 29th in Weyburn.
