Dale Vossen running the bench

Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires Coach Dale Vossen isn't yet sure if he'll be back to guide the Midget AAA club next season.

The Legionnaires wrapped up their schedule on Sunday and they missed the playoffs in Vossen's first year behind the bench.

"I'm definitely going to be here until the spring camp is done unless someone chooses difference," Vossen said. "I won't leave them hanging. I've done the scouting so far and I've had my guys that have helped me throughout the year and we're going to play that out. Once that's done maybe we'll sit down and talk about it. Maybe it will happen before then."

The Legionnaires went 9-25-7-2 and finished second last in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA league. They were dealt a tough hand when the majority of their players trying out for SJHL and WHL teams made the next level leaving them short on high end scoring talent.

"Not happy with the end result," Vossen said. "Our goal was to make the playoffs and be competitive. I think night in and night out we were competitive. As far as turning the organization around that's not for me to say. There's people that will make some decisions in the next little while on the direction this hockey team goes in and I guess we'll wait to see how that plays itself out.

Vossen would vouch for the character of any of his graduating players and hopes every player came away from the season better players and people than they were at the start of it.

He is optimistic for the future of the team as they can return as many as 12 players and there is a strong base of local talent coming up through minor hockey.

The Legionnaires have had a recent history of almost seasonal coaching changes. Jason Johns was fired from his position as Head Coach and Manager after the 2011-12 season, while the 2010-11 season featured a coaching change only a few weeks in.
